MANILA, Philippines– The Commission on Elections (Comelec), through the Office of the Solicitor General, defended its handling of the P17.99-billion automation contract for the 2025 elections in response to a petition filed before the Supreme Court seeking transparency on the joint venture project.
The Comelec maintained that it adhered to all Freedom of Information (FOI) obligations regarding the contract with Miru Systems Co. Ltd., the automated election system provider.
The petition sought to compel Comelec to disclose specific documents related to the automation contract.
Government lawyers requested the Supreme Court dismiss the petition, arguing that Comelec did not commit any grave abuse of discretion as they had already supplied the necessary documents.
The contract was previously awarded to Miru Systems Co. Ltd. as the lone bidder for the automation project of the 2025 mid-term elections.
