The Houston City Council has approved a contract extension of up to 10 years for the city’s graffiti abatement program.

The agreement, originally established in 2015 with the Greater East End Management District, authorizes the district to continue providing graffiti removal services across multiple city departments.

Council members voted in favor of the extension during their regular session on Wednesday.

The Greater East End Management District will remain responsible for removing graffiti from properties managed by the Parks and Recreation Department, General Services Department, and Public Works Department.

The graffiti abatement program was created to improve the appearance of public spaces by removing graffiti in high-traffic and highly visible areas. City officials cited the program’s role in maintaining public infrastructure and reducing vandalism.

Under the extended agreement, the district will continue coordinating with city departments to prioritize and carry out graffiti removal.

The contract includes funding to support operational needs and long-term strategies for managing graffiti throughout the city.

The program serves various public spaces, including parks, transportation hubs, and city-owned facilities. With the extension in place, graffiti abatement efforts will proceed without interruption.

The city and the Greater East End Management District plan to continue collaborating on strategies that align with Houston’s long-term urban development and maintenance goals.
