SAN ANTONIO, Texas– San Antonio officials have unveiled a formal community engagement plan for Project Marvel, a $4 billion initiative aimed at developing a new sports and entertainment district in the city’s downtown area.

The plan follows the city’s earlier announcement of the project, which seeks to transform the area surrounding Hemisfair and the Henry B. González Convention Center.

As part of the engagement strategy, the city will host at least ten two-day charrettes—collaborative planning sessions—throughout June and July, with one scheduled in each of San Antonio’s ten council districts.

Project Marvel includes plans for a new arena for the San Antonio Spurs, an expanded convention center, and the addition of restaurants, retail spaces, and residential units.

To manage the public engagement process, the city has contracted Able City, a local consulting firm, at a cost of $150,000. The city’s SASpeakUp program will assist in coordinating outreach and promoting resident participation.

The San Antonio City Council previously approved an amendment to the Project Financing Zone to support the development of a new convention center complex, including the proposed Spurs arena.

The project represents a collaboration among the city, Bexar County, and the Spurs organization.

Officials emphasized the importance of community involvement in shaping the project, citing a commitment to transparency and inclusivity.
