SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio on Tuesday announced a new citywide plan to strengthen code enforcement efforts, aiming to address overgrown yards, vacant lots, abandoned homes, and loose trash across neighborhoods.

City officials introduced the initiative to improve public health, safety, and neighborhood appearance, responding to long-standing concerns from residents. The Development Services Department will lead the plan, with code enforcement officers responsible for identifying and correcting properties that violate city regulations.

Officers will target issues such as overgrown vegetation and non-compliant property maintenance. The plan also prioritizes community involvement, encouraging residents to report violations and attend public listening sessions to provide feedback and suggest improvements.

“This is about creating cleaner, safer neighborhoods,” said officials during the announcement. “We are addressing both the look and the health risks associated with neglected properties.”

The city will implement new digital tools to track code violations and manage enforcement more efficiently. Officials expect the technology to speed up resolution times and improve transparency in the enforcement process.

Funding for the initiative comes from the city’s general budget, with specific allocations set aside to support the expanded program. The city has pledged to increase the visibility of enforcement officers and shorten response times, following resident feedback about delays and limited patrols.

The city will continue to monitor the plan’s rollout and adjust strategies based on its effectiveness and ongoing community input.
