AUSTIN, Texas– The City of Austin is treating Lady Bird Lake for blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, due to health concerns.

In previous years, several dogs died after exposure to the algae.

To address this, officials have implemented measures to reduce the presence of cyanobacteria in the lake. These treatments have caused increased cloudiness in the water.

The city has posted warnings and signs around the lake to inform the public of potential risks associated with the algae. Monitoring of the water quality and treatment effectiveness is ongoing.

The city’s efforts aim to prevent future cyanobacteria blooms and improve environmental conditions in Lady Bird Lake.
