MANILA, Philippines — Carlos Yulo won the Philippines’ first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after he topped the men’s floor exercise final on Thursday at Nagoya General Gymnasium in Nagoya, Japan.
Yulo scored 14.666 points with a 5.7 difficulty rating to claim the gold in his first of three apparatus finals.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist performed fourth and set the score to beat with a clean routine.
“There’s still a lot to improve in the next competitions, but I’m really grateful that that’s what happened for me today. I have no regrets in what I did today. I gave my best performance,” Yulo said.
Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi finished second with 14.600 points on a 5.7 difficulty rating after performing last.
Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama earned the bronze with 14.566 points on a 5.6 difficulty rating.
Yulo had led the floor exercise results in the all-around and team events since the start of the competition.
The 26-year-old gymnast added his first Asian Games gold medal to his collection, which includes two Paris 2024 Olympic gold medals, three world championships and nine Southeast Asian Games gold medals.
Yulo will compete for two more gold medals on Friday in the vault and parallel bars finals.
His younger brother, Karl Eldrew Yulo, scored 12.233 points on a 5.3 difficulty rating and placed seventh.
