MANILA, Philippines — K-pop supergroup BTS will not submit its music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, with all seven members saying Wednesday that they want their work to be heard and appreciated beyond regional and language classifications.

RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook posted the same statement on their respective Instagram accounts on July 29 announcing their decision.

“We have decided not to submit for Grammy consideration this year,” the group said. “We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.”

The announcement came after the Recording Academy introduced a new category, Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which recognizes music from Asian pop genres including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop.

BTS has received five Grammy nominations during its career but has not won an award. Its nominations have included Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.

The group’s seven members have served as voting members of the Recording Academy since 2019.

BTS had been expected to seek another Grammy nomination following the March release of its fifth studio album, “Arirang,” its first studio album after all seven members completed their mandatory military service.

The album topped music charts and received a strong international response.

The group is currently on its “World Tour Arirang.” After completing the European leg of the tour, BTS recently performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show alongside Madonna, Shakira and Justin Bieber.

BTS will resume the U.S. leg of its tour on Aug. 1 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, before bringing the tour to Manila for a three-night concert in March 2027.

The 69th Grammy Awards will take place Feb. 7, 2027.
