A Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashed into a school in Dhaka on Monday, resulting in at least 19 fatalities and over 100 injuries.
The incident involved an F-7 BGI training aircraft operated by the Bangladesh Air Force. The crash occurred at Milestone School and College in the Uttara neighborhood of Dhaka during school hours.
According to military officials, the aircraft took off at 1:06 p.m. local time and crashed shortly afterward. The aircraft caught fire upon impact.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. Investigators are examining the wreckage to establish the sequence of events. The crash site has been cordoned off to ensure safety and facilitate the investigation.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames from a distance. Community members have gathered to mourn the victims, and local leaders have called for enhanced safety protocols for military aircraft operations.
The F-7 BGI is a Chinese-manufactured model used by the military for training purposes. Previous incidents involving this aircraft model have occurred in other regions.
Following the crash, the Bangladesh Air Force has suspended training flights involving the F-7 BGI. Military officials have also launched an independent review of training procedures and flight safety standards.
The government has announced plans to provide financial assistance to the victims’ families and has committed to a thorough and transparent investigation.
