Austin Wildlife steps in to help stranded baby beaver

AUSTIN, Texas — A baby beaver, or “kit,” is now in the care of Austin Wildlife Rescue after being found alone on a sidewalk.

Austin Animal Services officers initially tried to locate the kit’s mother, siblings, or other nearby beavers but, finding none, brought it to AWR for care.

The rescue group noted that baby beavers are rarely admitted, and this kit arrived cold and weak, likely having been washed out of its den during Thursday’s heavy rain.

AWR said the kit is now rehabbing and is being fed formula as it recovers.
