AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police are investigating a crash involving Austin ISD Police Chief Wayne Sneed, who was injured Wednesday night while participating in a police motorcycle motorcade operation, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at about 8:20 p.m. at the westbound U.S. 290 and MoPac service road ramp near Southwest Parkway, according to the Austin Police Department.
Police said preliminary information showed that two motorcycles from the Austin Independent School District Police Department were involved in the incident, including one operated by Chief Sneed.
Authorities said the collision happened during a motorcade operation involving the district’s motorcycle unit.
Chief Sneed was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The Austin Independent School District released a statement expressing support for Sneed’s recovery and gratitude to first responders who responded to the scene.
Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
