MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) received a complaint on Tuesday accusing businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang, members of the Alpha Group, and certain Philippine National Police (PNP) officials of murder and serious illegal detention related to the disappearance of several sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts).
The complaint was filed by relatives of the missing individuals, who seek accountability for the unresolved disappearances spanning the last four years.
Ryan Bautista, brother of one of the missing, Michael Bautista, said the family is relieved that the case is moving forward after years of waiting.
Atong Ang has denied any involvement in the incidents. Police officials named in the complaint have not issued statements.
The DOJ is investigating the allegations and determining the next legal steps. No timeline has been set for the case resolution.
