AUSTIN, Texas– Athena, the Great Horned Owl, officially became Austin’s Owl Ambassador during her annual return to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, this week.

Athena hatched two owlets, bolstering her role as a natural fixture at the center.

The City of Austin designated Athena as the Owl Ambassador at a ceremony held on Friday.

The owl has been nesting at the Wildflower Center since 2012, attracting bird-watchers and enthusiasts alike.

The Wildflower Center collaborates with the Cornell Lab to provide a live stream of Athena.

Athena first arrived at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center more than a decade ago.
