MANILA, Philippines — Actress Andrea Brillantes addressed criticism surrounding her new single Gaga and the supposed hacking of her Instagram account, saying the stunt appeared underwhelming to some because people expected a scandal or controversy.

In a series of Instagram Stories on Tuesday, March 10, Brillantes responded to netizens who described the song as “corny” and the hacking incident as “anticlimactic.”

“Maybe you just didn’t get the point,” the actress said, explaining that a character named Ramona had supposedly taken over her account as part of the concept. She later said the account would be returned to her because fans were already missing her posts.

Brillantes added that the reaction from some users showed they were anticipating leaked messages, gossip or controversy.

“Maybe it feels underwhelming because you were really waiting for something—leaked conversations, chismis, a bit of scandal, a bit of Andrea Brillantes’ downfall,” she said, noting that the responses revealed the attitude of some critics online.

The actress also responded to comments claiming the song lacked depth, saying she partly agreed with the observation.

“For the people saying the song has no substance and is pointless, I actually agree with you,” she said. “Because around 80 percent of the lyrics I wrote were just the same non-substantial things people have been saying about her for years.”

Brillantes said the track was intentionally designed to provoke critics. “GAGA is supposed to annoy haters because it was made for you,” she said.

The actress earlier sparked concern among fans after her Instagram account, which has more than 14 million followers, showed unusual activity. Her photos were removed and her profile picture was changed to a blank image.

Her friend Bea Borres initially informed the public about the alleged hacking incident. It was later revealed that Borres had participated in the promotional stunt for the release of “Gaga.”
