MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala is set to represent Team Philippines at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
The 21-year-old tennis star said competing for the Philippines remains one of her priorities, emphasizing that representing the country is as important as pursuing success on the WTA Tour and in Grand Slam tournaments.
“It’s always an honor to play for the Philippines,” Eala said during a media availability hosted by BPI at the BPI Wealth Lounge in Makati. “The Asian Games is in my plans.”
The Asian Games are scheduled from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, immediately following the US Open, which runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 13 in New York.
Eala heads into the tournament with unfinished business after winning two bronze medals in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where she placed third in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events.
She also ended a 20-year title drought for Philippine women’s tennis by capturing the gold medal at last year’s Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
