MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Solomon has rejoined Alas Pilipinas as the national team prepares for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
The opposite spiker returned to Manila from Japan to participate in team practices despite currently playing in the SV.League for Osaka Marvelous.
Several other players, including Bella Belen, Leila Cruz, Vanie Gandler, and Dawn Catindig, are now able to fully focus on the SEA Games after their respective teams were eliminated from the PVL Reinforced Conference quarterfinals.
Alas Pilipinas coach Jorge Souza De Brito expressed optimism about ending the Philippines’ 20-year medal drought in women’s volleyball. “We always hope for a medal finish. The players are motivated by our previous results against teams like Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia,” De Brito said.
Other members of the team include Jia De Guzman, Eya Laure, Maddie Madayag, and UAAP standouts Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura, and Amie Provido.
Alas Pilipinas will compete in Pool A at the SEA Games, facing Thailand on December 11 and Singapore the following day at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok.
