ANAHEIM, California — Adam Driver will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as supervillain Mister Sinister in Disney’s upcoming “X-Men” reboot, with Inde Navarette set to play Rogue in the film scheduled for release in May 2028.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced the new cast members Friday night during Disney’s D23 convention at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Driver will star alongside his former “Girls” castmate Christopher Abbott, who will portray Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd, who will play Storm.

Driver had been linked to the “X-Men” reboot for years, with speculation often pointing to Magneto as his possible role. During the presentation, he appeared on a large screen while the rest of the cast took the stage.

“Kevin and I had been talking for years about my joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Driver said. He initially joked that he would play Magneto before revealing that he would portray Nathaniel Millbury, an alias used by Mister Sinister.

Navarette, who gained attention for her performance in the horror film “Obsessed,” will play Rogue.

Previously announced cast members Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Scott “Cyclops” Summers and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey also appeared at the event. Sink’s role was confirmed through her appearance in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Jake Schreier will direct the “X-Men” reboot, with “Beef” creator Lee Sung Jin and “The Bear” co-showrunner Joanna Calo writing the screenplay.

The film marks the X-Men’s full integration into the MCU following Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Gosling leads ‘Star Wars’ presentation

Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy also appeared at D23 to promote “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which is scheduled for release in May 2027.

Gosling will play Kade Auberon, a character whose fate becomes connected to what the film describes as the fastest starfighter ever built.

Disney also previously announced that Gosling will portray Ghost Rider in the MCU, with the character expected to appear in a “Black Panther” sequel before a standalone “Ghost Rider” film.

Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen appeared to promote the second season of the Disney+ series “Star Wars: Ahsoka.”

Marvel veterans preview ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Hayley Atwell introduced new footage from “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is scheduled for release Dec. 18.

The footage features Downey as Doctor Doom, Evans returning as Captain America and Ian McKellen as Magneto.

Hugh Jackman also appeared in a video message to Feige, saying he was willing to return as Wolverine for the film, although Marvel has not confirmed his participation.

Paul Bettany and James Spader also presented footage from the upcoming Disney+ series “Visionquest,” in which they reprise their roles as Vision and Ultron.

‘Frozen 3’ presentation goes off script

Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel encountered technical problems while promoting “Frozen 3.”

The actresses attempted to perform a new version of “Frozen Heart,” but audio and video issues, along with malfunctioning stage doors, disrupted the performance.

Bell and Menzel improvised through the problems before returning to the presentation. Josh Gad later performed “Oooh, Samantha,” a song his character Olaf will sing in the upcoming film.

The D23 event also featured performances from the cast of “The Greatest Showman,” whose stage musical adaptation will premiere on London’s West End next year.
