The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced on Monday that it had intercepted a man who was allegedly traveling to a planned protest at the Texas Capitol in Austin with the intent to harm lawmakers.
The event, referred to as the “No Kings” protest, was organized to express political grievances.
According to DPS, authorities acted upon receiving information about the threat and apprehended the individual before they reached the protest site.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded to the threat by calling for a review of current security procedures. He emphasized the importance of protecting public officials and maintaining public order during demonstrations.
