SAN ANTONIO, Texas — San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle has been named the NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2024–25 season, the league announced Tuesday.
Castle secured the award over fellow finalists Zaccharie Risacher of the Orlando Magic and Jaylen Wells of the Sacramento Kings.
Castle is the second consecutive Spurs player to receive the honor, following the team’s emphasis on developing young talent.
The award is determined by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from the United States and Canada, based on players’ on-court performance, team impact, and overall potential.
Throughout the season, Castle delivered consistent performances that contributed to the Spurs’ campaign. His statistics, defensive contributions, and decision-making earned recognition from both analysts and coaches.
Risacher and Wells also had notable rookie seasons. Risacher made key contributions to the Magic, while Wells emerged as a promising asset for the Kings.
Castle joined the Spurs at the start of the season and integrated quickly into the team’s system. His development under the guidance of the coaching staff was noted as a factor in his successful rookie year.
The Rookie of the Year award places Castle alongside past winners who have gone on to long NBA careers. His recognition adds to the Spurs’ history of individual player achievements and highlights the organization’s developmental strategies.
