SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A jury in San Antonio sentenced rapper Taymor McIntyre, known as Tay-K 47, to 80 years in prison on Tuesday for the 2017 murder of Mark Anthony Saldivar in a parking lot.

McIntyre was found guilty of fatally shooting Saldivar outside a Chick-fil-A restaurant in San Antonio, Texas. The incident took place in June 2017 and was reportedly a result of a robbery gone wrong.

The 22-year-old rapper had previously gained notoriety for his 2017 song “The Race,” which detailed his time running from law enforcement. The track was released while McIntyre was on the run after cutting off his court-ordered ankle monitor.

The court found McIntyre guilty of murdering Saldivar during an attempted robbery. Authorities stated that McIntyre tried to rob Saldivar, and during the confrontation, gunfire erupted, leading to Saldivar’s death.

In 2019, McIntyre had been convicted of a separate crime that occurred in 2016.

During a home invasion in Tarrant County, Texas, McIntyre participated in an incident that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Ethan Walker.

For his involvement in that crime, McIntyre received a 55-year prison sentence. The conviction stemmed from a robbery that turned violent, resulting in Walker’s death.

The 2016 case also involved McIntyre and several others breaking into a home in search of drugs and money.

During the robbery attempt, Walker, a resident of the home, was fatally shot. McIntyre, who was 16 at the time, was charged as an adult. He was later convicted of murder and robbery, receiving a 55-year sentence for the murder.

McIntyre’s song “The Race” reached 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and garnered millions of views on YouTube, further propelling his notoriety.

Authorities captured McIntyre in New Jersey in 2017 after a nationwide manhunt. He was apprehended by U.S. Marshals and extradited back to Texas to face charges.

The subsequent trial of the 2017 murder led to the guilty verdict and sentencing issued by the San Antonio jury.

McIntyre’s defense argued that he did not fire the weapon that killed Saldivar, seeking to reduce the severity of the charges. However, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of murder, resulting in the 80-year sentence.

The sentences from both the 2016 and 2017 cases run concurrently, ensuring that McIntyre serves significant time in prison. The rapper remains incarcerated as he begins the lengthy sentence imposed by the court, effectively ending his career in the music industry.
