HOUSTON, Texas–A wildfire covering 2,000 acres in the Sam Houston National Forest has led to the evacuation of homes in Montgomery and San Jacinto Counties.

The fire, named the Pauline Road Fire, began in the southwestern corner of San Jacinto County and was first reported on Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials reported the blaze was 10% contained as of early Thursday.

The Texas A&M Forest Service confirmed that the fire has crossed into Montgomery County, raising concerns for residents in nearby areas. Authorities have issued evacuation orders, urging residents to leave for their safety.

Emergency shelters have been set up for displaced residents. Firefighters from multiple agencies are working to contain the fire and prevent further spread. A spokesperson for the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of following evacuation guidelines to ensure public safety.

Dry conditions and wind have contributed to the fire’s rapid spread. Fire crews are using aircraft to drop water and fire retardant while ground teams create firebreaks to limit damage to properties.

Local officials are providing updates through news outlets and social media. The National Weather Service is monitoring conditions and providing forecasts to assist firefighting efforts.

Schools in the affected region have been closed as a precaution. Authorities have adjusted transportation routes to accommodate emergency response teams and advised residents to avoid the impacted areas.

Community organizations and volunteers are providing aid, including food, clothing, and supplies for displaced individuals. Donations are being collected at community centers.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management is coordinating with local authorities and monitoring the situation.
