AUSTIN, Texas– The City of New Braunfels is alerting property owners about an ongoing email scam targeting residents.

Fraudulent emails, claiming to be from city officials, have been circulating, urging recipients to provide personal information or make payments.

City officials are stressing the importance of verifying the legitimacy of such communications to prevent residents from falling victim to these deceptive tactics.

The fraudulent emails often appear convincing, mimicking official city correspondence with authentic-looking logos and official language.

Scammers use these tactics to deceive property owners into providing sensitive information or sending payments.

Red flags that may indicate a scam include requests for personal information, urgent payment demands, or suspicious email addresses. The city emphasizes that it never requests sensitive information via email.

Residents are advised to verify any suspicious communication by directly contacting the city through official channels. Property owners should use known contact methods, such as the city’s official phone numbers or website, to confirm the legitimacy of any requests.

Similar fraudulent activities have been reported in cities across the U.S. Property owners are often targeted due to their perceived financial stability, making them prime candidates for scammers.

Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious emails to local authorities, which can help track and address the issue. The city is working closely with law enforcement to mitigate the impact of these scams.

In addition to staying alert to phishing attempts, property owners are advised to monitor their accounts and personal information for any signs of unauthorized access or transactions.

For further assistance, property owners can reach out to the city’s designated contact points. A dedicated team is available to offer support and guidance for anyone concerned about potential scams.

New Braunfels officials remain committed to safeguarding residents from fraud. By promoting awareness and encouraging careful decision-making, the city hopes to reduce the impact of these deceptive activities on the community.

Residents are also encouraged to access resources from national consumer protection organizations, which offer valuable advice on recognizing and reporting scams.
