Canadian-based company FGF Brands has initiated a voluntary recall of over 2 million doughnut products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium.

The recall affects a wide range of items, including cake rings, paczki, fritters, crullers, and munchkins, which are distributed throughout the United States and Canada.

The affected products, which were produced under the FGF Brands name and other associated labels, were distributed to grocery stores across North America.

The recall includes products with expiration dates on or before December 13, 2024.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness that can be especially dangerous for individuals with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues such as nausea and diarrhea. In severe cases, the illness can lead to serious complications or even death.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is overseeing the recall, which has been classified as a Class II recall.

This classification indicates a moderate health risk associated with the products. The FDA is working closely with FGF Brands to ensure consumer safety during the recall process.

Despite the precautionary nature of the recall, FGF Brands has emphasized that there have been no reported illnesses directly linked to the recalled products.

The company has encouraged consumers to check their homes for any affected items and either discard them or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. Retailers are also removing the products from shelves.

FGF Brands has expressed its commitment to customer safety and is cooperating with regulatory bodies to address the situation. The company initiated the recall on January 7, 2025, in an effort to proactively prevent any potential risk to consumers.

Consumers seeking more information on the affected products can visit the FDA’s website or contact FGF Brands directly. The company has also pledged to continue working with health authorities to rectify the situation promptly.

As foodborne illnesses continue to be a concern, consumers are reminded to remain vigilant and report any adverse reactions linked to recalled products.
