MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced plans to visit Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The visit, aimed at addressing key issues between the two nations, comes in the wake of the recent deportation of 24 Filipino immigrants from the United States, who were allegedly involved in criminal activities.

The primary focus of the upcoming meeting will be immigration policies, particularly the U.S. administration’s strict stance on illegal immigration.

Marcos emphasized the importance of open dialogue between the two countries, aiming to foster cooperation and understanding on this sensitive issue.

The deportation of the Filipino individuals has raised questions about how Filipino nationals are treated under U.S. immigration laws.

Marcos aims to ensure that the rights and welfare of Filipinos in the U.S. are respected and safeguarded.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that the deported individuals had committed crimes ranging from minor offenses to more serious charges.

The Trump administration has been a strong proponent of tougher immigration controls, with a focus on curbing illegal immigration and ensuring security within U.S. borders.

In response to the deportation, the Philippine government has extended support to the affected individuals and their families, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the interests of Filipino citizens abroad.

The Philippine embassy in Washington has also been actively engaged, ensuring that Filipino nationals receive fair treatment and due process in line with international immigration laws.

Beyond immigration, the planned discussions between Marcos and Trump are expected to cover other topics, including trade, economic collaboration, and regional security.

The meeting aims to strengthen the longstanding partnership between the Philippines and the United States, focusing on mutual interests and areas for continued cooperation.
