Google, a leader in the technology industry, has prioritized Texas in its 2025 expansion plans by announcing the opening of its first brick-and-mortar store in the state. The upcoming Google Store will be located at 11701 Domain Blvd. as part of the Domain Northside development in Austin. While the exact opening date remains unconfirmed, the store’s address is now listed on the Google Store website, indicating significant progress.

This Austin location will join Google’s existing retail footprint in major urban centers, including Chelsea in Manhattan, Williamsburg in Brooklyn, Mountain View, California, Boston, and Oak Brook, Illinois. Meanwhile, a new store in Santa Monica, California, is also in the planning stages. The tech website 9to5Google initially reported the addition of the Austin location.

Austin’s reputation as a leading tech hub makes it an ideal choice for Google’s retail expansion. The city is renowned for attracting STEM professionals and fostering innovation. Google’s investment in the region is evident through its existing presence, including a warehouse lease acquired in 2024 in Fort Worth for data center material storage. Additionally, Google has initiated a power purchase agreement with SB Energy, committing over $1 billion to Texas, starting with a data center 70 miles north of Austin.

The Domain, a prominent mixed-use development in North Austin since its 2007 debut, spans 303 acres and features approximately 5,000 apartment units and 137 retail outlets. The Domain Northside, part of the development’s third phase, hosts notable tenants like Apple, AT&T, CB2, and Restoration Hardware.

Google’s foray into physical retail began in 2021 with its 5,000-square-foot location in Chelsea, New York City. These stores offer customers the opportunity to purchase products such as Pixel phones, Chromebooks, Nest devices, and Fitbit items. Beyond sales, the stores provide support services akin to Apple’s Genius Bar and showcase new technologies through interactive experiences. Google’s approach to these stores has been experimental, drawing insights from past pop-up shops to better align with customer expectations.

In 2021, then-Vice President Jason Rosenthal emphasized the strategic learnings from previous pop-up activations, guiding the company’s retail ventures. As Google prepares to launch its Austin store, these insights continue to inform its efforts to deliver a unique and engaging customer experience.
