Fuel marking, seizures bring in P84 billion for BOC

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported confiscating P84.356 billion worth of smuggled goods from January to November 2024, as part of its intensified anti-smuggling campaign.

The revenue from these seizures stems from initiatives such as fuel marking, revenue collection, and targeted crackdowns.

The fuel marking program has been a key component in combating fuel smuggling by ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

The system identifies legally imported diesel and gasoline, allowing enforcement teams to detect and seize non-compliant products more efficiently.

In addition to fuel, seized commodities include agricultural products, electronics, garments, vehicles, and counterfeit goods.

The agency’s comprehensive efforts aim to protect local industries, uphold fair trade practices, and safeguard government revenue streams.

Collaboration with other government agencies has enhanced the effectiveness of the BOC’s enforcement operations.

Joint efforts at ports and entry points have led to the interception of illegal shipments, bolstered by advanced technology such as modern tracking systems and scanning equipment.

The BOC credits the success of its campaign to improved intelligence sharing, data analysis, and targeted enforcement. These measures are part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to combat smuggling and protect the country’s economic interests.
