AUSTIN, Texas — Two individuals died in a collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian in Northeast Austin on the night of December 25.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. near the 6800 block of U.S. Highway 290, close to Cameron Road. Emergency services, including Austin-Travis County EMS, responded to the scene, where both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian were found with critical injuries.

Despite efforts to save them, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision caused traffic disruptions as authorities worked to clear the area and investigate the cause of the crash.

The identities of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of their families. Investigators are looking into factors that may have contributed to the crash.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, particularly during the holiday season when traffic is typically heavier.

Local authorities have urged drivers and pedestrians to exercise increased caution during this time.

The Texas Department of Transportation and local law enforcement are intensifying efforts to promote road safety.

Campaigns targeting impaired and distracted driving have been emphasized, with the Austin Police Department extending its “No Refusal” initiative, which mandates blood draws for drivers suspected of being under the influence who refuse breathalyzer tests.
