DALLAS, Texas –The trial of one of the individuals accused of killing former University of Oklahoma (OU) football player Du’Vonta Lampkin has begun.
Antwan Franklin is one of three people arrested in connection with the shooting of Lampkin in a Dallas Airbnb in May 2022.
Lampkin was a player at the University of Oklahoma who was found dead from gunshot wounds in the short-term rental property where he was staying.
The incident occurred as he was preparing to move into a new apartment.
During the trial, Franklin testified that he bought and sold marijuana as a side job and knew Lampkin through this connection.
He claimed that he owed money to Garcia, who had threatened him, and that he told Garcia about Lampkin’s $20,000.
Franklin said he expected Garcia and another man to break into Lampkin’s apartment and steal the money.
Prosecutors questioned Franklin about text messages between him and Garcia, but Franklin maintained that he acted under duress and didn’t want anyone to get hurt.
Lampkin’s friend and his girlfriend, who rented an Airbnb for Lampkin while he waited to move into a new apartment, found him dead when they went to check on him.
