SAN ANTONIO — Texas voters who plan to cast mail-in ballots will follow the same process after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an effort from President Donald Trump’s administration to impose new restrictions on mail-in voting, local election officials said.

Election offices expect to mail ballots next week, and Comal County Elections Coordinator Cynthia Jaqua said voters should not worry about changes to the system.

“Now that it’s settled, everybody should settle down and not worry,” Jaqua said. “Ballot-by-mail is just like it has been in the years past.”

Jaqua urged voters to return their ballots as soon as possible to ensure election officials receive them before the Oct. 23 deadline.

She also encouraged voters to carefully complete the carrier envelope to avoid having their ballots rejected.

“The common mistake is because of the carrier envelope, and there’s a little spot that you put your driver’s license, your personal ID or the last four of your social (Social Security number). Sometimes they forget to put it there,” Jaqua said.

Jaqua said election officials contact voters who make the mistake so they can correct the information before the deadline.

Voters can track their mail-in ballots through the state’s official election website. Jaqua also encouraged voters to contact their county elections office if they encounter problems with the tracking system.

“We’re the ones that know what the law is to answer the question correctly and so we would love for the to call us,” she said. “We welcome it.”

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 5. In-person early voting starts Oct. 19, and Election Day falls on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
