SAN ANTONIO — More than 161,000 Bexar County voters now appear on the county’s “suspense” list ahead of the Nov. 3 election, according to the Bexar County Elections Department.

The number increased from about 153,000 voters at the end of August.

Election officials place voters on the suspense list when they cannot confirm the voter’s current residential address. Returned election mail or information suggesting a voter no longer lives at the registered address can trigger the status.

A suspense designation does not automatically prevent someone from voting.

Texas election officials allow eligible voters on the suspense list to cast a ballot after they complete a Statement of Residence, depending on their circumstances.

Voters can check their registration status through the Texas Secretary of State.

The deadline to register or update an address for the Nov. 3 election falls on Oct. 5.
