MANILA, Philippines — Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano returned to the Philippines Saturday after traveling to Singapore, with Pia saying she had planned the trip to support the national team at the Asia Pacific Padel Tour.
Alan Peter announced their return in a Facebook post Saturday night.
“Through GOD’S grace, we are back! And in the arms of our beloved Pilipinas,” the former Senate president said.
Pia said in a Facebook post Friday that she had scheduled and planned the Singapore trip well in advance to support the Philippine national team at the Asia Pacific Padel Tour.
She did not say whether her brother traveled to Singapore for the same purpose or had a separate reason for the trip.
The Bureau of Immigration confirmed that the two senators left the country Wednesday.
Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson earlier said the trip was “not an issue as of the moment” and said Alan Peter should get a “break from the stress caused by issues that he himself created.”
Lacson and Alan Peter have engaged in a public dispute over alleged irregularities involving flood control and reclamation projects in Taguig City.
Lacson submitted at least 45 case studies supported with official documents to the Office of the Ombudsman. He said the documents detail alleged “systemic anomalies” in flood control infrastructure projects in Taguig.
The National Bureau of Investigation and the Ombudsman are also investigating Alan Peter over alleged irregularities in the Philippines’ hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. He served as chair of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.
