MANILA, Philippines — Actress Bea Alonzo’s contract with GMA Network is set to end after she completes filming for her upcoming political thriller series “Whispers from Heaven,” according to her former talent manager Shirley Kuan.
Kuan, who resigned as Alonzo’s manager on Aug. 11, made the disclosure during a press conference Monday, Aug. 24, where she discussed her decision to end her management ties with the actress.
Asked whether Alonzo would remain with GMA, Kuan said the series would be the actress’ final project under her current contract.
“This (‘Whispers from Heaven’) is her last,” Kuan said. “When she finishes her taping — I think days na lang, mga 10 to 12, I’m not sure — then her contract ends.”
Kuan said Alonzo and GMA have not discussed a contract renewal.
She said she previously asked GMA to make Alonzo’s new series a strong project because it could be the actress’ last television series for some time.
Kuan also said she wanted Alonzo to have time for her personal life rather than immediately take on another project.
“I want her to have a family. I want her to settle down,” Kuan said.
Alonzo and GMA have not publicly responded to Kuan’s statements. Alonzo’s interim manager, Chris Cahilig, declined to comment when contacted by Inquirer Entertainment.
During the press conference, Kuan also denied claims that she caused the cancellation of Alonzo’s wedding in Spain to businessman Vincent Co.
Kuan also rejected allegations that Alonzo served as her “cash cow,” saying the actress did not make her rich and would not determine her financial situation.
