MANILA, Philippines — Actress Angel Locsin called on actor-turned-Sen. Robin Padilla to “wake up,” urging her former co-star to return to the principles she said they once shared in an open letter posted on social media Thursday.
Locsin’s message came after Padilla questioned National Bureau of Investigation Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and referred to himself as a “communist” while discussing the alleged “Operation Romanov.”
In the letter, Locsin recalled Padilla’s stories about taking up arms in the mountains to fight for the country, saying she was reminded of the man she once knew.
She also questioned why Padilla did not defend her when she was subjected to red-tagging, despite knowing the allegations against her were false.
Locsin criticized Padilla’s support for detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy and expressed disappointment over the senator’s positions on issues involving China, saying they differed from the patriotism she once admired in him.
“Our debt of gratitude is to God and to all Filipinos—not to just one person,” she wrote.
Locsin ended her letter by urging Padilla to reconsider his actions, writing, “Enough, Kuya. Wake up. It’s not too late.”
As of Thursday, Padilla had not publicly responded to Locsin’s remarks.
