SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Curry said Thursday he would welcome the opportunity to play alongside LeBron James with the Golden State Warriors, while acknowledging the veteran forward will decide where to play next as a free agent.
Speaking before the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Nevada, Curry said any team James chooses would likely do everything possible to sign the four-time NBA champion.
“I feel like any place he calls and says ‘I want to play there,’ you move mountains to make it happen,” Curry said.
Curry, who teamed up with James on the United States men’s basketball team that won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, said his recruiting pitch focused on the Warriors’ experience and style of play.
“The pitch is: Do you want to play good basketball and be around people that know how to play the game,” Curry said. “We’re an organization that’s been there. He knows that.”
James informed the Los Angeles Lakers last week that he would leave the franchise after eight seasons.
The Warriors are among several teams linked to James, alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers.
The Cavaliers recently signed Donovan Mitchell to a four-year contract extension, while reports have also linked free agent James Harden to Cleveland.
James’ agent, Rich Paul, said this week that as many as 10 teams could be serious contenders to sign the 41-year-old forward.
