Austin FC has named Jim Curtin as its next head coach.

Curtin, a two-time MLS Coach of the Year, spent a decade leading the Philadelphia Union, where he guided the team to seven MLS Cup playoff appearances. During his tenure, Philadelphia won the Supporters’ Shield in 2020 for posting the league’s best regular-season record and reached the MLS Cup Final in 2022.

Although appointed now, Curtin will not officially assume the role until December, after the conclusion of the current MLS season. He will become Austin FC’s third head coach in club history.

In a statement, Curtin said he had other coaching opportunities in MLS and overseas but was particularly drawn to Austin and the club’s long-term project.

Austin FC dismissed head coach Nico Estévez and sporting director Rodolfo Borrell in May. Borrell had overseen significant roster changes and the transition from the club’s inaugural coach, Josh Wolff, to Estévez before the 2025 season. Under Estévez, Austin returned to the MLS Cup playoffs and reached the final of the U.S. Open Cup.

The club is still searching for a permanent sporting director who will work alongside Curtin. Meanwhile, interim head coach Davy Arnaud will remain in charge through the rest of the 2026 season.

Austin FC currently sits 14th in the Western Conference and will resume play after the World Cup break when it hosts Seattle Sounders FC on July 22 at Q2 Stadium.
