San Antonio has added another space for pet owners and neighbors to gather with the opening of its 21st dog park, the Beacon Hill Dog Park at 1032 W. Rosewood, according to city officials.
The new half-acre park, opened on Monday, includes off-leash areas and dog drinking fountains, expanding the city’s network of dedicated pet recreation spaces under the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.
Department Director Homer Garcia III said the growth of dog parks reflects increasing demand from residents who want more shared community spaces that include pets, comparing them to traditional playgrounds but focused on “furry families.” He said the goal is to support both recreation and social connection among residents.
District 1 Councilwoman Sukh Kaur attended the ribbon-cutting with her dog Hera and emphasized the same community-building aspect, noting that dog parks give neighbors a casual place to meet while their pets play.
Local neighborhood representatives from the Beacon Hill area also attended the opening, highlighting continued community interest in public green spaces near downtown San Antonio.
