MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Valdez has made it clear she remains fully committed to the national team as Alas Pilipinas continues preparations for upcoming international competitions.
Speaking at the Philippine Sportswriters Association forum on Tuesday, Valdez emphasized that once a player becomes part of the national program, the responsibility does not end—even after previous stints.
“Once you’re part of the national team, you’re always going to be part of the national team. Once you’re called, you answer,” she said, adding that she has “the heart to serve” for the country.
Valdez, one of the early names linked to the roster for the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup, said she understands both the pressure and fulfillment that come with national team duty.
“I know it’s hard but I also know how fulfilling it is to represent the country,” she said.
Her return to the national pool has drawn mixed reactions from fans, but Valdez said her mindset remains unchanged as she embraces the opportunity to contribute both on and off the court.
Beyond competition, she also expressed hope of guiding younger players in the 20-player national pool, emphasizing leadership and shared experience.
“Hopefully, this serves as an inspiration inside of the national team as well,” she said.
2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup action is set to begin on June 6 at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
