SAN ANTONIO — City leaders are seeking public input as they begin planning the 2027 budget, asking residents to share priorities through a short survey available online and at local libraries, senior centers, and community centers.
A major focus is public safety: in the 2026 budget, the San Antonio Police Department received about $632 million of the city’s $4 billion budget. A 2023 study recommended hiring 360 officers over five years to keep pace with population growth, but only 40 new positions were funded last year. Councilmembers Marina Alderete Gavito, Misty Spears, and Marc Whyte have urged revisiting this plan, though the proposal has been tabled for further discussion.
The budget will also address funding for other city services, programs, and development projects. Survey results are expected by late May, with community town halls planned for August to discuss findings.
