Lewis Hamilton says he remains as driven as ever at 41, using discipline and intense training to fuel a resurgence ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka Circuit.
The seven-time world champion said he recently returned from an early morning training run to find some of his rivals just waking up—something he takes pride in. “I know that none of the drivers I’m racing against have trained as hard as I have,” Hamilton said, emphasizing his commitment despite his age.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest in Formula One history, Hamilton holds records for most race wins (105), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (207), and is tied with Michael Schumacher for seven world titles.
His motivation has been sharpened after a difficult first season with Ferrari, where he failed to secure a win or podium. But early signs this season suggest a turnaround, including a third-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Mercedes has started strong, with wins from George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli under the sport’s new regulations, which feature a 50-50 split between electric and combustion power.
The changes have drawn mixed reactions across the grid, including criticism from reigning champion Max Verstappen, who described the racing as inconsistent. Hamilton, however, said he is enjoying the challenge—especially now that he has a car capable of competing for wins again.
“It’s a natural part of the process,” Hamilton said of last season’s struggles. “One of the most important things is getting back up—and that’s what I’ve done this year.”
