SINGAPORE — Alex Eala lost to Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the Singapore Open Round of 16 at OCBC Arena Center Court on Thursday night, ending her main draw debut at the tournament.
Eala won the opening set, but Prozorova rallied to take the next two sets and advance to the quarterfinals.
“Honestly, I don’t have any words right now to describe my feelings, my emotions. But wow, I did it,” Prozorova said after the match.
The sold-out crowd had rallied behind Eala throughout the match.
“I just believed in myself. I knew that she will fight, but I will also fight,” Prozorova said.
Eala will next compete in the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The tennis competition opens Sunday in Nagoya.
