SEOUL, South Korea — Vernon and The8 of the K-pop group Seventeen are preparing to debut a new subunit with an album targeted for release in June, their agency Pledis Entertainment announced Thursday.
Pledis said the two artists are currently working on the unit album and are participating in its production.
Vernon, one of the group’s rappers, has contributed to songwriting and composition since Seventeen’s debut in 2015. In 2024, he became a member of the Korea Music Copyright Association in recognition of his songwriting work. He also joined the Recording Academy, the organizer of the Grammy Awards, as a voting member in 2025.
The8, a Chinese member of the group, is known for his dance performances and has released solo music in China, including the 2024 album Stardust.
The two previously collaborated on the song Orbit, the lead track from The8’s “Stardust,” which Vernon helped write and compose.
The duo will become Seventeen’s sixth official subunit. The group previously formed units including BSS, composed of Seungkwan, DK and Hoshi.
Seventeen is currently holding its New_ World Tour, which has included performances in Bangkok and Bulacan. The tour is scheduled to conclude with encore concerts on April 4 and 5 in Incheon, South Korea.
