ARLINGTON, Texas — A 6-year-old child suffered a gunshot wound Wednesday night after a bullet fired in an upstairs room traveled through the floor of a home and struck the child below, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Officers responded just after 7 p.m. to a local hospital after medical staff reported that a child had arrived with a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators later determined the shooting occurred at a private residence in the 2300 block of Quail Run Road in Arlington.
Police said a firearm discharged in an upstairs room, sending a bullet through the floor and into the room below, where the child was located at the time. A family member drove the child to the hospital after the incident.
Officials said the child’s injuries are not life-threatening. Authorities did not release the child’s identity because of the victim’s age.
Detectives are continuing to investigate how and why the firearm was discharged. Police said investigators have not determined who owns the weapon or who fired it. Authorities have not announced any arrests or potential charges.
