SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio began its biennial cleanup of a section of the San Antonio River on Thursday, January 15, city officials reported.

Crews lowered water levels using pumps and temporary barriers to allow workers safe access to the riverbed and banks for debris removal, infrastructure maintenance, and environmental management.

Workers removed trash, sediment, and vegetation that had accumulated since the last maintenance cycle. City officials coordinated the operation with local and state environmental and public works agencies to ensure compliance with regulations.

The city advised residents and visitors of temporary access restrictions along the riverwalk and changes to views near active work zones. Officials said water levels will return to normal after inspections and any minor repairs to river infrastructure are completed.
