MANILA, Philippines — Riot Games has launched the first seasonal update of 2026 for League of Legends (LoL), focusing on the in-game kingdom of Demacia and introducing gameplay, narrative, and competitive changes.
Titled “For Demacia,” the update refreshes gameplay systems, expands strategic options, and adjusts pacing. Role quests now grant unique rewards by lane, midlaners receive free tier-three boots and faster recalls, and bot laners gain increased gold income plus a seventh item slot. Champ Select times are shorter, and minion and jungle spawns occur earlier. New features include Faelights and Crystalline Overgrowth, while Swiftplay and Ranked updates are detailed in developer blogs.
The update also introduces Demacia Rising, a season-long meta-game where players develop Demacia from a small settlement into a full kingdom. Motion comics will be released during the season, and Shyvana will receive visual updates for her human and dragon forms in Act 2.
Competitive play changes include First Stand, a tournament from March 16-22 in São Paulo, Brazil, featuring eight top teams in best-of-five matches. The Mid-Season Invitational will take place in Daejeon, South Korea, while Worlds returns to North America with events in Texas and New York. First Selection, a new system separating side choice from draft order, will give teams more flexibility during champion select. Hall of Legends will also return with a new inductee ahead of Worlds.
Riot Games announced long-term plans for League of Legends, including a fully integrated client, revamped Summoner’s Rift, updated runes and pre-game systems, and an improved experience for new players. Additional details will be released between MSI and Worlds later this year.
