MELBOURNE, Australia — Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton said Thursday he will give his full effort to improve on a disappointing debut season with Ferrari as he begins his 20th year in the sport.
The 41-year-old Briton, who has won a record 105 Grand Prix, will compete in his 381st race at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, returning to the circuit where he made his F1 debut with McLaren in 2007.
Hamilton failed to reach the podium last year while adjusting to Ferrari’s team environment. He reflected on his career on Instagram this week, noting the challenges, lessons, and persistence that have defined his 20 seasons in Formula One.
Ferrari has made significant changes to its car following new regulations on chassis, engines, and aerodynamics. Team chief Fred Vasseur said pre-season testing in Bahrain provided useful data but stressed that Melbourne will be the first real measure of competitiveness against rivals including McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes.
Hamilton emphasized focus and determination ahead of the season opener, stating he will leave “no holding back” on the track.
