MANILA, Philippines — South Korean singer-songwriter EJAE won a Golden Globe Award on Monday, January 12 (Manila time), as one of the songwriters and performers of “Golden” from the animated film KPop Demon Hunters, which earned Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards, organizers said.
EJAE shared the award with her fellow writers and performers during the ceremony, where she spoke about her experience of rejection earlier in her career and how it led her to songwriting and music.
In her acceptance speech, EJAE said she spent 10 years pursuing a dream of becoming a K-pop idol before facing rejection, which she said pushed her to rely on music as a creative outlet. She said the recognition marked a milestone in her journey as a singer and songwriter.
EJAE said the award also represented audiences who connect with the song’s message of self-acceptance and perseverance. She dedicated the recognition to people who have experienced rejection and encouraged them to continue pursuing their goals.
She also thanked the Golden Globe Awards for recognizing her work and voice.
KPop Demon Hunters received another major honor during the ceremony after winning Best Animated Motion Picture.
