CAGLIARI, Italy — Rafael Leao’s decisive strike helped AC Milan move to the top of Serie A after a narrow 1-0 victory over Cagliari on Friday.
Adrien Rabiot provided the assist, sending Leao through to beat goalkeeper Elia Caprile in the 50th minute. Milan, now two points clear of Inter Milan, continue to chase a strong start to the season, with third-placed Napoli set to face Lazio.
The match saw Milan pressing after halftime, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek heading over a chance before Leao, playing despite a right adductor issue, finally broke the deadlock. He had earlier hit the crossbar minutes prior to scoring.
Christian Pulisic came close to doubling the lead in the closing minutes, but Milan held on to secure all three points and maintain their unbeaten road record this season.
Cagliari remains 14th in the Serie A standings with 18 points.
