Around 3,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) face legal cases abroad, including at least 24 on death row, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported.
The cases involve immigration, labor, and criminal charges across sectors such as household service, construction, and healthcare.
The DMW said it coordinates with Philippine embassies, consulates, and foreign lawyers to provide legal aid and consular support, working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs on high-risk cases. It also implements preventive measures, including pre-departure orientation seminars, and reviews bilateral labor agreements to strengthen protections.
The department urges OFWs and families to report legal issues promptly and updates its database to monitor cases. Officials said they plan to enhance collaboration with migrant worker organizations and legal aid groups to support OFWs facing proceedings abroad.
