Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Monday that the government is preparing to file new criminal charges against contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
Remulla said investigators from the Department of Justice and the Office of the Ombudsman are finalizing the complaints, which will form part of a wider set of cases involving supposed anomalies in flood control contracts nationwide.
He said authorities are still identifying other contractors and public officials who may be involved. The DOJ is coordinating with other agencies to collect documents, project records, and testimonies to support the charges against the Discayas and other respondents.
Remulla said the government aims to file the cases once the evidence review is complete and the legal issues are settled. He did not give details on the number of projects or the amounts involved, citing the ongoing investigation.
He said more information on the charges and the Discayas’ alleged role will be released once prosecutors file the cases in court. The investigation covers multiple areas, and initial findings indicate widespread anomalies.
