The Department of Trade and Industry in the Philippines filed formal charges on Oct. 25, against eight major contractor-licensees over alleged irregularities in flood control projects worth an estimated P545 billion.

The complaints name Legacy Construction Corp., Centerways Construction & Development Inc., Alpha & Omega General Contractor & Development Corp., and five other contractors.

The DTI seeks to address possible violations of construction industry regulations linked to flood control contracts.

Government investigators report that the eight contractors secured large portions of the flood control packages under review. The DTI states that the filing forms part of an effort to enforce accountability in the construction sector.

Investigations into other contractors potentially linked to similar anomalies remain ongoing. Officials have not released details on the nature of the alleged irregularities or the schedule for legal proceedings.

The DTI urges the public to report suspicious activity in public construction projects. Officials continue to monitor additional firms for compliance with industry standards.

The accused contractors have not issued statements in response to the charges. The DTI states that firms found liable for violations may face sanctions, penalties, or license revocations. Government agencies involved in infrastructure oversight continue to coordinate on the investigation.
