BEIJING — World number one Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn from the upcoming China Open due to an injury sustained during her recent US Open victory, tournament organizers confirmed on Wednesday.

Sabalenka, who claimed her fourth Grand Slam title and second consecutive US Open crown earlier this month by defeating Amanda Anisimova in the final, announced her withdrawal just days before the tournament’s scheduled start next week in Beijing.

The Belarusian player cited the need to recover from the injury before returning to competition. The exact nature and severity of the injury have not been disclosed.

Organizers of the China Open acknowledged Sabalenka’s withdrawal and expressed support for her recovery. Her absence marks a notable change to the tournament lineup, as she was considered one of the top contenders for the title.

Sabalenka’s decision underscores the physical toll of high-level competition, particularly following a Grand Slam run. Her return to the tour will depend on her recovery progress.

The China Open will proceed as planned, with tournament officials continuing final preparations. Sabalenka’s status for future events remains uncertain pending medical updates.
